![]() The primary function of an alternator is to work jointly with the battery to supply energy to the electrical components, i.e., lights, fan, windshield wipers, etc. It changes the alternating current into a direct current and regulates the voltage to meet the required minimum power for each unit. The alternator comprises a cooling fan, voltage regulator, rotor, stator, diode bridge rectifier, slip rings, slip ring end bearings, carbon brushes, pulley. The rotor and stator are the central units for electricity generation, while the rectifier helps in converting AC to DC. All the components work jointly to monitor and regulate the power to match the energy needs of different components of the car’s engine. The functioning of an alternator is straightforward. A serpentine belt that rests on a pulley is attached with an alternator. When the engine is ignited, the pulley moves and rotates the rotor shafts attached to the alternator. The rotor is an electromagnet with two revolving metal slip rings and carbon brushes attached to its shaft. Due to the rotation, a small amount of electricity is supplied to the rotor, which is conducted to the stator. The magnets on the rotor are placed in such a way that they pass over the copper wire loops in the stator. This creates a magnetic field around the coils. While this product may be very good and worthy of a donation, I personally believe that their are far too many 'Find a File' apps available right now and that it is time that some of them become mature products. When the rotor spins, the magnetic field is disturbed, and this, as a result, generates electricity. I can only hope that the developers who are talented and creative will focus their future efforts on adding expanded features to their 'find' products or concentrate their efforts into other Mac Apps where the interest and demand for better products is of user interest. In some respects I would like to apologize to the developer of Power Select, not for seemly casting aspersions on his product, which is not the case, but for using his latest release as a soapbox to make comments about all the wide variety of products that essentially do the same thing, abet in slightly different ways, but do little else. Yes, it is expensive for a utility, but for me it is an extremely good value with a long pedigree. For me it duplicates or replaces an absolutely huge number of other file management utilities. It also has an immense number of other features such as locating invisible and duplicate files. It finds everything, including invisible files and files buried in the core of the system. ![]() ![]() Spotlight can also lock onto comments placed in a files 'Get Info' window which can contain only key words.įor more comprehensive file management I have never found anything to compare with File Buddy. A little time spent with it, learning how it wotks with key combinations (Cmd, Opt, Cntr, Shift) yield some amazing results. Personally I like Apple's Spotlight for simple searches for files and as a fast App launcher (using 10.8). Convenience and ease of use is one of those things, like speaker selection, where a high degree of personal judgement comes into play. While the price may be correct for this product unfortunately it is just one of many apps, some free, and some commercial that search for a file on your hard drive and do little to nothing more. ![]()
